How music can help motivate you
You’ve felt the powerful effect music can have on exercise—now put music to work while you clean your home. Not only does upbeat music release dopamine in your brain, which helps increase energy, but research shows that high-tempo music can provide distraction and elevates mood during physical exertion. So why not give yourself a little boost to get cleaning?
End-of-summer cleaning tips
While summer isn’t over yet, it can be helpful to get a head start on some tasks before the season’s change. And if you’re already thinking ahead, prepare a fall maintenance checklist for your home, too.
- Wipe and wash patio furniture. Use a mild soap and water to wipe down furniture, and wash and put away cushions if you don’t need them anymore.
- Clean the grill. This includes making those greasy BBQ utensils look new.
- Wash off gardening tools. Scrub off any dirt so they stay in good shape for next season.
- Wash swimsuits and beach towels. If they’re done for the year, wash them and put them away.
Back-to-school organizing
Give everyone in the family a chance to get organized—mentally and physically—before the chaos of school starts.
- Have kids clean their own rooms. Put the music on in their rooms and get them involved in the cleaning process. Have them organize their desks, and school supplies, and choose outfits for the first week of school.
- Organize the pantry and fridge. If you’re packing lunches for the kids, organizing the pantry ahead of time can be a huge time saver. Make sure snacks, fruit, and veggies are stocked up and accessible for those first few days of getting back into a routine.
- Make sure school supplies are in good shape. Give backpacks and lunchboxes a good wash with antibacterial soap. Wipe down binders, books, electronics, pens, etc. so they’re ready to go.
